Call for Papers

SERMEISS – Fall Conference October 18-20, 2024

Call for Papers:

The Southeast Regional Middle East and Islamic Studies Society (SERMEISS) is excited to announce that it will hold its fall meeting on October 18-20, 2024. 

SERMEISS welcomes proposals for papers to be presented at its fall 2024 conference. Proposals for individual papers should include the paper title; a detailed abstract regarding your topic, thesis, and plan of presentation; and contact information (including department and institutional affiliation) for the presenter. If you would like to propose a panel, instead of an individual paper, please include all of the above information for all three panelists and an overview of the panel theme.     

SERMEISS is an inter-disciplinary organization and papers or panels may address any issue pertaining to the Middle East and/or Islamic world. To submit proposals, please send all materials in a single file to program chair Curtis Ryan (ryanc@appstate.edu) by July 15, 2024. This is a juried conference, and proposals will be vetted by a conference committee. Applicants will be contacted regarding the decisions of the committee by August 10th. 

Our fall meetings are held annually at a lodge in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. Even if you are not submitting a paper for presentation, please mark the date and plan to join us in October for our 2024 meeting of SERMEISS.
